About the Kobra Dental Simulator

The Kobra dental simulator is the world’s first commercial open-source-based surgery simulator, designed for oral surgery training using the Polhem haptics device from HaptikFabriken. This simulator provides co-located haptic feedback, enabling users to experience bone removal precisely at its visual location. The unique setup ensures that students can practice complex surgical procedures in a realistic and risk-free environment. The primary objective of the Kobra is to offer hands-on practice of dental surgical procedures. Certain procedures, such as the extraction of wisdom teeth, are challenging to teach through theoretical instruction alone. Traditional methods of practicing on human subjects are not only costly but also require significant supervision and pose inherent risks to patients. The Kobra addresses these challenges by providing a cost-effective, safe, and highly effective training alternative.
